|50 million Spotify users who now listen music for free will be unable to access new tracks from some top artists. The service has announced a major change, which would see making some music available only to paying customers.
Before, all music on Spotify has been available to both free and paid users. However, the company has now agreed with several record labels to restrict some of the new releases to members who pay $9.99 a month to get access to offline playback and ad-free listening.
Spotify enjoys the largest paid user-base among music streaming companies, accounting for 50 million paying subscribers and 50 million free users. This is much more than Apple’s 20 million users and Tidal’s 3 million, but Spotify is the only service providing a comprehensive free tier. Now the service decided to restrict some new music from free users in order to gain a reduction in royalty fees paid to the labels. It can also get a chance to stream exclusive releases from such musicians as Kanye West, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, who have restricted new albums to the paid tier.
Music labels claim that the free tier, which pays lower royalties, can cannibalize other audiences, hit album sales and lower the incentive to upgrade to the paid service. Besides, there is a point of principle underlying the debate for some performers, including Taylor Swift, who pulled all of her songs from Spotify. The artist claimed that music should not be free, as it is an important and rare art. In the meantime, Taylor Swift’s songs are still available under time-limited free trials on the rival streaming services such as Apple Music and Amazon Music, as well as on Google’s YouTube.

Of what use are they, none. I get my content and that's it I have it.
Why do I need them for? I don't.
Of course maybe Im not the norm, since thousands get there content from me.
Fine with me, I'm not paying for any of those "artists'" crap.
this is why i listen to old school music cause its way better than the crap they put out today and this is why i would rather own music than stream it
....The artist claimed that music should not be free, as it is an important and rare art.... LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL, rare art, really? Old school music FTW, I still own some old school cassettes. My friends used to copy those cassettes before torrents were in the picture so I guess they are all pirates. A rare art like Trance music is free and will always be.
Couldn't agree more. SHITpple sucks.
Thanks SaM for a good read.

Taylor Swift music is a rare art! BS her music is crap.
Taylor Swift what a P.o.S!! If all the millions shes already made isnt enough for her mediocre at best music and vocals then she has serious mental issues and is a greedy azz cunutty whore. She should be stripped of everything and put out on the streets with the homeless for a year and then maybe MAYBE get a crumb of her former life back then say that same crap!!
So basically, free users have to keep listening to Spotify's annoying ads, but they still won't get access to the newest content?
I don't use Spotify very much anyways, so I think I'll just uninstall it from all my devices.
Not because I listen to any of the newer stuff, I hardly ever listen to anything newer than the 90's.
But just out of principles, and not wanting to continue supporting their changing business model.
Music you can hear on the radio for free, but since it's coming over the internet, it must be the work of evildoers and pirates.
This kind of BS is really starting to make me annoyed with the technophobes running today's entertainment industry.
Might as well convert to being Amish, pretty soon we won't be allowed to use technology for anything that isn't sanctioned by the higher ups.
